Selection of Granthi

In its meeting held on July 10, 2009, the Sikh Foundation of Virginia (“SFV”) Board of Trustees appointed a committee for the selection of a Granthi for the SFV Gurdwara Sahib. Trustee Surjeet S. Sidhu was appointed coordinator of the committee. The committee is charged with identifying qualifications for the Granthi position, inviting applications, and making recommendations to the SFV Board for the final s>election.

Following committee meetings and informal discussions with several individuals, the committee has formulated the following description of qualifications for the Granthi position.
Qualifications:
- A professional Sikh religious studies degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of Five (5) years experience as a granthi at a mid-size Gurdwara or as a Kirtan/Katha vachak
- Ability to communicate in Punjabi and English, especially being able to explain Gurbani/ Hukamnamas in English. [Preference will be given to individuals with knowledge of English.]
- Should be able to perform Shabad Kirtan, including ability to play and teach Harmonium and Tabla.
- Should have auto driving skills.
